Derrick Griggs is the Chief Executive Officer of Neighborhood Housing Services of NYC, Inc. (NHSNYC), a federally certified Community Development Financial Institution. The mission of NHSNYC is to provide individuals and families with the opportunity to preserve and improve their neighborhoods, their homes, and their future. The goal is to support the realization of the best quality of life possible by providing a stable home.
Prior to joining NHSNYC, Mr. Griggs was the Chief Operating Officer of the Affordable Housing Alliance (AHA). AHA is one of Monmouth County’s largest community development organizations. During his tenure, AHA grew from 45 to 85 employees with an annual budget of approximately $15 Million. Total assets grew from just over $20 Million to just under $100 Million.
Mr. Griggs entered the non-profit space right as the recession impacted thousands of families in New Jersey and millions across the US. He was instrumental in the development of 47 properties in Essex County, NJ, and completed the first acquisition, rehab, and resell using the $50 Million Neighborhood Stabilization Program in Newark, NJ.
Mr. Griggs started his career as a Business Analyst at Lucent Technologies. After Lucent Technologies, Mr. Griggs spent time at Suburban Propane before ending his career in corporate finance as the Director of Operations Finance for Travelport.
Mr. Griggs has a BS in Finance and an MBA in Management & International Business, both from Rutgers University. Mr. Griggs completed an 18-month Executive Leadership program at Harvard University Kennedy School. In addition to working in the non-profit space, Mr. Griggs is active in the community. He is a Board of Trustee for Monmouth Medical Center, a Commissioner for Neptune Township Housing Authority, a member of Governor Murphy’s Restart & Recovery Committee, and NJ 11th Legislative District Restart & Recovery Committee. Mr. Griggs is father to Jason, Derrick Jr. & Ibrahim Griggs.
